Music Manager Updates

A new feature in Goggles Music Manager I just implemented is the ability to play a song in an already running gmm remotely from for example a file browser or commandline. I basically use a fifo to check for a running gmm and send the requested filename through the fifo to the existing gmm.

Right now I basically open the fifo on the 'server' side in Read/Write mode. I was hoping to use the nonblocking method (and without the Write Mode), but somehow things get messed up when I use select to watch the file descriptor.

Broken Flowers

This weekend I watched a couple of great movies. First one was "Broken Flowers" which is about a man who visits his ex-girlfriends to find out which one of them is the mother of his son. Briljant performance by Bill Murray. Next one I watched was The Chumscrubber, a very dark comedy about suburban neighbourhood where everyone is chemical happy and no-one communicates. I enjoyed that one too.

How to get and stay in the spotlight....

Step 1. Say something insulting like that Sharons' heart attack was a divine intervention from god for giving away the holy land.
Step 2. Say you're sorry.
Step 3. Go back to step 1.

Narnia and the Globet of Fire

Harry Gregson-Williams is definitly not John Williams or Howard Shore. The score for the Chronicles of Narnia is very disappointing. I guess the music itself is ok, just not for this movie. Don't expect any emotional climax like the one in LOTR: The Two Towers where Gandalf finally returns and descends down the mountain. The movie itself was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Disney.

Speaking about other scores that suck. Harry Potter and the Globet of Fire also sucks big time. I know that it is really hard to top John Williams' previous scores, but at least don't try to reinvent the whole score for Harry Potter. There's no shame in just imitating the "master". At least we get a half-decent score then.
